ABOUT THE TERRITORY

Ferraria de São João is one of the Schist Villages. Located in Penela council, the village lays between the Schist and the Sicó territory. There are several local activities available, such as learning how to make bread, to cultivate or to take care of goats and chicken. Besides rural activities, you can walk or cycle, choosing one of the existing trails (more information available at Schist Villages or Villa Sicó).

The surrounding territory includes magnificent heritage sites like:

. Mondego’s Castles and Walls: Coimbra, Lousã, Germanelo,  Miranda do Corvo, Montemor-o-Velho, Penela, Pombal, Soure and Buarcos Fort

. Roman ruins: Alcabideque Castellum, Santiago da Guarda, Conímbriga, Rominha (Alvaiázere) and Rabaçal

. Natural Heritage: the Sicó abyss, grottos, algares, cascades, caves, river beaches and ridges (Espinhal, Lousã and Sicó)

The proximity to touristic sites such as Coimbra University (49km) or Convent of Christ in Tomar (53km) make it very hard to choose what to do.

The best option is to stay longer or to come back!
